This research studied the ‘behaviour’ of micron-sized particles, known as colloids. It investigated the electrical charge of the particles and the viscoelasticity of colloidal suspensions. Colloids are crucial components of so-called ‘soft materials’. Insight into and understanding of the properties of colloids are needed to develop new materials that are able to resist extreme force. This PhD research contributes to our fundamental knowledge of these special building blocks.
