European culture, clashing or common values?
The Austrian Economics Center, Hayek Institute, the TeldersFoundation and Justus Lipsius association for students of legal philosophy jointly organize the 2018 Free Market Road Show in The Hague on May 17th. The annual Free Market Road Show tours through 45 cities in Europe and the Caucasus in April and May. The topic of this year’s Dutch meeting will be European culture: clashing or common values?
We invite you to join us on the 17th of May in ‘De Wijnhaven’ located at Turfmarkt 99 in The Hague. The event begins at 4 pm and lasts until 8 pm. It consists of two sessions. In the first session, our keynote speaker is Charles Blattberg, professor of political philosophy at the University of Montreal and author of From Pluralist to Patriotic Politics: Putting Practice First. Professor Blattberg will speak about the tension between pluralism and patriotism. Dr. Geerten Waling, historian and author of several books on patriotic politics, will respond to professor Blattberg.
The subsequent panel discussion will focus on what clashing or common values mean for European integration, globalization, and economic freedom. Panel members include René Cuperus (Advisor to the Dutch ministry of Foreign Affairs), Pieter Cleppe (Head of the Brussels office of the British think-tank Open Europe), and Erich Weede (sociologist at the University of Bonn).
