In recent years, social media have turned into a significant source for following and understanding the depth developments in Iranian society. Used by dozens of millions of Iranians, social networks (in particular Telegram, Facebook, Instagram & Twitter) serve as an accessible and relatively free means of communication to conduct a discourse & express the public's views on political and social issues facing the Islamic Republic.
Dr. Zimmt's presentation will address the major trends in Iran's social media, discuss to what extent social networks are representative of the Iranian public at large and examine the main developments characterizing Iranian society & the contribution of social media to the promotion and empowerment of social and political change in Iran.
The lecture includes a Q&A session and will be followed by free drinks for all guests at North End pub.
