What's up with Diversity?
One of the new themes at the institute CA/DS is ‘Diversity’, in which we focus on differentiation in societies, and how people use and connect differences in race/ethnicity, gender, class, religion and so on. These themes are key in research and debates on diversity. Why and how do classification and categorisation take place along these (and other) lines? How is inequality constructed around these categories? How do people perform and experience religious, gendered, racial/ethnic and class-identifications? How do these intersect? Is diversity a ‘buzzword’ or a helpful concept in anthropology? In this research seminar, we present and discuss further what we mean by diversity and how this is part of our research and teaching agendas.
