Médecins sans Frontières Holland (MSF Holland) and Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), together with the Kalshoven-Gieskes Forum and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will host a panel discussion ‘The Protection of Medical Personnel and Facilities in Armed Conflict’.
Speakers:
- Prof. Mattijs Numans MD, director LUMC Campus The Hague: Introduction.
- Prof. Barend Middelkoop MD, Public Health LUMC: The right to public health: what is needed to safeguard it in terms of confidentiality, impartiality, neutrality, patient safety and safe working environment for medical staff.
- Katrien Coppens, delegate director Artsen zonder Grenzen (MSF): The importance of respect for medical facilities and staff in the line of work for MSF.
- Dr. Robert Heinsch, Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies, KGF: How are medical facilities and staff protected under international humanitarian law, and the potential value of resolution 2286.
- Jelte van Wieren MA, director Stability & Humanitarian Aid at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: The position of the Dutch government, what can the Netherlands do in relation to the (temporary) seat in the UNSC.
After the presentations, there will be time for a panel discussion and Q&A with the audience. The panel discussion will be followed by drinks.
