Presentation and exhibition by dr. Dick van der Meij (independent scholar), with dr. Peter Worsley (emeritus professor Indonesian and Malayan Studies, University of Sydney).
Many of the 20.000 manuscripts from Indonesia kept at Leiden University are seldom shown to a wider public. This afternoon, Dick van der Meij will introduce and comment upon a selection of illustrated manuscripts from the KITLV and Leiden University Library collections to those interested in this rich heritage. Following the concept of his newly published book Indonesian Manuscripts from the Islands of Java, Madura, Bali and Lombok (2017, Brill Publishers), he will link hitherto unaddressed features of the manuscript to the use of these manuscripts in their original contexts.
Peter Worsley will be presented with the first copy of Indonesian Manuscripts from the Islands of Java, Madura, Bali and Lombok and will comment upon this original and significant contribution to the study of Indonesians manuscripts.
The presentation will be in English. If you wish to attend, please register by sending an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
