The 7th Annual ESHE meeting is organized in Leiden by the Human Origins group of the Faculty of Archaeology. ESHE hosts an annual meeting open to registered participants and publishes the proceedings of these meetings as a series. Participants—usually 300-400, with about one-third being early career scientists—report on the latest and ongoing research in human evolution world-wide.
The European Society for the study of Human Evolution promotes the broad field of research that investigates how humans evolved both biologically and culturally. Contributing disciplines typically include Palaeolithic archaeology; hominin palaeontology and palaeogenetics; comparative and functional studies of extant primates, using both morphological and molecular evidence; and applied studies of stable isotopes, dating, taphonomy, palaeoecology and palaeogeography.
Besides the scientific programme, ESHE organizes a public-outreach event in the context of the meetings, this year in the form of a public lecture in the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden by Leiden archaeologist Dr. Marie Soressi, 20 September 2017, 20:00 hrs.
