'Gold nano-antennas reveal electrochemical properties of Methylene Blue at single-molecule level'
Martin Caldarola (LION) is a post-doctoral researcher at the Single-Molecule optics group, with Michel Orrit. He is interested in studying enhanced light-matter interactions at the nanoscale, for example, single-molecule fluorescence enhancement.
Redox reactions are central to energy conversion and life metabolism. Using gold nanoantennas we are able to study the electrochemical properties of the well-known redox indicator, but a bad fluorophore, Methylene Blue (MB) at single-molecule (SM) level. By measuring the same molecule at different electrochemical potentials we determined the mid-point potential of each single molecule through its redox-induced fluorescence blinking dynamics.
