As part of the CSM course Security & the Rule of Law we would like to invite you on Tuesday 28 March to participate in a public guestlecture with Belgian mother Saliha Ben Ali, whose 19 year old son Sabri left for the jihad in Syria and died. She is a key activist in the 2017 Movies the Matter Festival / Matter of Act documentary ‘Empty Room/La Chambre Vide’ (Director: Jasna Krajinovic).

In order to cope with the sorrow of this loss, Saliha and her husband try to understand the process of radicalization and to warn young people to recognize it and not fall for it. She speaks in the Belgian Parliament and with kids in schools. She also helps the investigation into the jihadist networks that recruit young people. But above all, she is fighting for a formal victim status for her son. Saliha wants to prevent more young people from falling into the same trap and has committed herself to fight the jihadi networks. In order to do so she has established the organization S.A.V.E. Belgium.

The Q&A session with activist Saliha Ben Ali on Tuesday 28 March is moderated by Quirine Eijkman (senior-researcher Security & Rule of Law) between 16:00 - 17:00 in Classroom 2.02.

For any questions please email q.a.m.eijkman@fgga.leidenuniv.nl.
