Karel Lannoo is the Chief Executive Officer of the Brussels based Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS), one of the leading independent European think tanks. At CEPS, Karel is CEO and amongst other things, manages the research entities, European Credit Research Institute and European Capital Markets Institute. Karel Lannoo’s publication record includes book contributions to Britain's Future in Europe: Reform, renegotiation, repatriation or secession? and his edited book The Great Financial Plumbing: From Northern Rock to Banking Union. He also partakes in the policy debates through Policy Briefs and Commentaries, and he takes part in the wider public debate through media engagements with outlets such as the Wall Street Journal. Before joining CEPS in 2000, his career took him from an internship at the EU Commission to the private sector (an Italian agro-food company, Ferruzzi) and free-lance journalism. Karel Lannoo graduated with a BA in Philosophy (1984) and an MA in Modern History (1985) from the University of Leuven, and a Postgraduate in European Studies from the Centre d’Etudes Européennes from the University of Nancy, France.
