W1. How to match your skills with the employer’s needs?

Dr. Ingeborg Scheurwater, Netherlands Institute of Biology (NIBI)

The aim of this short workshop is to provide you with tools to explore your career opportunities as a bachelor or master student, both inside and outside science. Furthermore it will give insight into the needs (biological knowledge, skills and work attitude) of a wide variety of employers. And last but not least you will learn to successfully match your skills to the employer’s needs.

Career events as the Bètabanenmarkt offer you an opportunity to connect directly with various employers. But then… that awkward moment that you approach the person in that booth of your favorite company… What do you say? And how can you make an impression that sticks with them?

W3. Leiden University Mentor Network

Through an online mentor network, you can come into contact with Leiden University alumni who would like help students by giving advice on education and career choices. Some alumni even offer to joint them on a working day, so you can discover what suits you. During this workshop, you will learn more about the Mentor Network, you will discover the value for you and learn how it works.

An important part of applying for a job is presenting yourself through your resume and a LinkedIn page. Are you wondering how you can do this best as a student or a starter? Come to this workshop receive many tips. Bring your resume and/or a printout of your LinkedIn page for personal feedback!
