Advances in Computer Vision using Deep Learning
Dr. Michael S. Lew is the director of the LIACS Media Lab, head of the deep learning research group and an associate professor at LIACS. His research focuses on developing new deep learning architectures pertaining to multimedia information and data science.
Endowing a computer with the ability to understand the world using vision is one of the pillars of machine learning and artificial intelligence. The field of computer vision spans areas ranging from the detection of edges in pictures to visual concept detection, where the computer receives an image and should output meaningful descriptions in human vocabulary. This talk will briefly discuss recent advances to the state-of-the-art by my deep learning research group that involve new architectures and knowledge fusion methods in deep neural networks. The talk will conclude with showing some of the capabilities and limitations of the deep learning networks using a live demo.
