It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the first Leiden International Seminar on the Atlantic (LISA) on 19 October 2016. This first LISA lecture is given by Susanah Shaw Romney, and titled "Personal Relationships, Social Networks and the Building of New Netherland."
Susanah Shaw Romney is author of the book New Netherland Connections: Intimate Networks and Atlantic Ties in Seventeenth-Century America (UNC Press, 2014), for which she has received various awards. She is Assistant Professor at New York University, and currently works on a new project looking at gender, settlement, and land claims in the seventeenth-century Dutch empire in North America, Guyana, South Africa, and Java.
The lecture will be followed by drinks.
