Expert Meeting Russian Human Rights Defenders

Monday 31 October 2016
KOG A051

For the past years Russia has sought to stigmatize criticism or alternative views of government policy as disloyal or foreign-sponsored. It is part of a conduct to silence critical voices that has included new legal restrictions on the internet, freedom of expression, the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and on other fundamental rights.

It must therefore not come as a surprise that human rights activist face numerous challenges in Russia nowadays. Several top leading human right lawyers are willing to share their opinions relating to these issues and they will give a number of short presentations.
