In its annual World Development Report the World Bank always addresses a theme of particular importance for development. In 2017 this will be ‘Governance and the Law’. The WDR 2017, which will be released later this year, may impact on legal reform agendas around the globe. A lead author of the report is Deborah Isser. Deborah Isser will present the main thrust of the WDR 2017 with a focus on the role of law in development.
Ms. Isser, a Harvard–trained lawyer, has conducted development-oriented socio-legal research in and on Africa (Liberia, South Sudan), the Middle East (Iraq), Central Asia (Afghanistan), and the Pacific (Solomon Islands). At the World Bank she has also coordinated the Justice for the Poor program.
