Since the outbreak of several great social and economic crises (Greece, refugees, terrorist attacks) the lack of confidence of citizens in international and European co-operation and integration has grown. In his inaugural lecture, entitled The borderless state, Kutsal Yesilkagit argues that despite the growing distrust of citizens, national governments have been investing more and more in new forms of transnational political and governmental co-operation.
