The Institute for History of Leiden University, in collaboration with the N.W. Posthumus Institute, invites you to a public lecture by prof. dr. Julia Adams (Yale University) on Wednesday June 1st 2016, at 16.00, the title of which will be announced shortly.
Julia Adams is professor of sociology and International & Area studies at Yale University, with a special interest in Early Modern State formation, patriarchal politics, and the historical sociology of agency relations. She has published extensively on Early Modern merchant capitalism, patrimonial power, and agency relationships in long-distance trade. These different interests all come together in her book The Familial State: Ruling Families and Merchant Capitalism in Early Modern Europe.
