Modern Physics at all Scales
Tuition Fees & Stipend
Participation in the summer school is free and a limited number of bursaries for travel to and from the summer school are available.
Accommodation will be provided in Leiden close to campus. Housing is provided from Sunday 12 July until Wednesday 22 July 2020. It is not possible to stay any longer. The accommodation is in walking distance of the Faculty of Science. Bicycles will also be available for use.
Visa & Insurance
There are no regional restrictions for participation. However, please note that some nationalities require a short stay visa for the Netherlands. When applying for a visa the Leiden Institute of Physics will provide a letter of invitation.
We strongly urge our participants to take a travel insurance with a third-party liability insurance to cover any accidental damage or harm caused to other persons or property during the stay in the Netherlands. This is to be arranged by the student with a company of their choice.

About the Leiden Institute of Physics
The Leiden Institute of Physics (LION) incorporates the Huygens-Kamerlingh Onnes laboratory for experimental physics and the Institute Lorentz for theoretical physics. Together the different branches provide an academic environment with a focus on fundamental questions, but with an open eye to benefits for society.
The institute strives to maintain a close interaction between theory and experiments. The research groups in the sub-disciplines closely work together and also cooperation with other institutes within the Leiden Science Faculty is actively promoted. LION maintains a balance between fundamental research and practically oriented research, based upon the conviction that true innovation arises from asking questions that have not been phrased before.
Location and Programme
The summer school will be held at Lorentz Center @ Snellius, Niels Bohrweg 1, 2333 CA Leiden.
For more information about the daily schedule, please check the programme from 2019 as an example. The final programme will be published closer in time to the summer school.
