Regulations and protocols
Leiden University’s regulations and protocols are drawn up by various departments such as Legal Affairs, Human Resources, the Student & Education Affairs Expertise Centre (SEA) and the department of Health, Safety & Environment.
Your most important rights and obligations as a student are laid down in the Student Statute. How this statute is implemented is detailed in various faculty and educational regulations, for example your study programme’s Education and Examination Regulations (OER in Dutch). To access these, and many other university regulations, visit our regulations webpage.
Code of conduct for international students in higher education
This Code sets out standards for Dutch higher education institutions in their dealings with international students. By signing the Code of Conduct of the Association of Universities in the Netherlands, Leiden University offers international students a clear insight into the quality of its study programmes, student recruitment, and selection procedures.
Do you feel the university has not acted according to the Code of Conduct? If you have contacted the relevant university staff member and an agreement cannot be reached, you can submit a complaint.
