Project summary

This project is aimed at deepening and extending the collaboration between Ivane Javakhishvili State University (TSU) and Leiden University, both in the areas of staff exchange and (potentially) student exchange. Staff of both institutions can benefit greatly from teacher exchange. In addition, the  strong cultural component of the courses taught by visiting staff contributes to the internationalisation of students at both institutions.

By continuing to invite Georgian scholars to teach courses in Leiden, the university is further contributing to its goals of internationalisation. Leiden University students who are interested in lesser-known languages like Georgian also gain the opportunity to expand their linguistic and cultural outlook. The success of the courses given to date proves that is a significant need for courses of this nature.

It is hoped that a first visit by a Leiden scholar to TSU would spark a new tradition of Leiden teaching and research visits. Georgia is still an under-discovered area for Leiden researchers. A teaching stay in Tbilisi would also enable Leiden University staff to investigate the possibilities of future cooperation, which could eventually lead to the exchange of students.

Ivane Javakhishvili State University (TSU) is aiming to increase its connections with universities outside the region. Researchers and students are supported in their efforts to undertake research and follow/teach courses at other universities and establish collaboration for future cooperation.
