All coronavirus updates published in February 2021.
The government announced on 23 February that it was extending some coronavirus measures and easing others. This means the following for our students and staff:
Curfew extended until 15 March
The curfew has been extended until 04:30 on 15 March. This means that the temporary opening times for our buildings will continue to apply until then. For the current opening times of our buildings, please see the locations page.
Restrictions eased on outdoor sport
From 3 March, anyone up to the age of 26 will be able to do outdoor sports in groups of more than two; this is at sports venues only. Although competitions are still prohibited, they will be able to play with their own team at their own club. This will mean more options for team sports at the University Sports Centre and student sport associations. More information at the USC website
On 8 February 2021 the government decided to extend the curfew until 2 March. During this period you may not leave your home between 21:00 and 04:30.
For Leiden University this means that the buildings (and as a result the study spaces) will close earlier. We are therefore extending the measures announced in our update on 22 January.
The government has extended the lockdown in the Netherlands up to and including 2 March, which means the measures implemented on 15 December will apply for longer.
Teaching online up to and including 19 March
The decision has been taken that all teaching will be online up to and including 19 March. This is longer than the current lockdown period. The reason is that this makes it clear for both students and teachers what they can expect for the rest of this teaching block. It also gives teachers some certainty so they can organise and prepare their teaching. The current exceptions for small-scale practical lessons and mentor and tutor meetings will still apply. Some programmes may organise small-scale in-person teaching activities in March. Communication on this will come from the faculties.
All other measures for our students and staff, as described in the update from 15 December, will also apply up to and including 2 March.
In the coming days, the government will decide whether or not the curfew will be extended. Once this decision has been taken, we will inform you through this page what it will mean for the opening hours of our buildings. So please follow our updates.
