Leiden University Libraries (UBL) have an enormous archive of books, maps of the world, manuscripts, letters, photos, drawings and other objects. Altogether, a wealth of culture.
Consulting the Collections
Items from the Special Collections of the UBL can be consulted in the Special Collections reading room. In some instances, if an item is in a particularly poor condition, for example, the item will not be available for consultation. Read the terms and conditions that apply to consult these materials.
If you wish to view the Special Collections, you will need a library card (LU-Card). You can apply for the LU-Card at the library desk.
You can view many special objects online on the Digital Special Collections website, where you will also find further information on these objects.
It is possible to order reproductions of items from the Special Collections.
The University Libraries generally grant requests to loan materials for exhibitions.
