League of European Research Universities

The League of European Research Universities (LERU) is a group of more than 21 prestigious European universities. The primary goal of this alliance is to convince national and European authorities of the importance of fundamental academic research and the role that research universities can play in this. In addition, LERU focuses on the exchange of expertise between its members and on encouraging collaboration and interaction between its students and academics.

COIMBRA Group

The Coimbra Group was established in 1987 and is a network of long-established European multidisciplinary universities with an international reputation. Coimbra focuses its efforts on creating academic and cultural ties between its members in order to promote internationalisation, academic collaboration, excellence in teaching and research and knowledge transfer to society. The Coimbra Group also aims to influence European educational policy and facilitate the mutual exchange of experience and best practices.

The Europaeum

The Europaeum was founded at the start of the 1990s to bring young researchers and leaders together to discuss developments in Europe and to promote pan-European thinking. The Europaeum stimulates collaboration in research and teaching between leading European universities and helps academics and students organise conferences, colloquia and summer schools that enable political, cultural and business leaders to participate an interdisciplinary dialogue with the academic world.

European University Association

The European University Association (EUA) represents and supports higher education institutions in 47 countries, providing them with a unique forum to co-operate and keep abreast of the latest trends in higher education and research policies.

International Association of Universities

The International Association of Universities (IAU), founded in 1950, is the UNESCO-based worldwide association of higher education institutions. It brings together institutions and organisations from some 120 countries for reflection and action on common concerns and collaborates with various international, regional and national bodies active in higher education.
