The imperfect fuel cell model
Hydrogen cars have been widely used as a demonstration of what a sustainable future could look like. However, very few of them are driving around. One of the reasons for this is that the fuel cell inside such a car degrades a little bit every time you start or stop. Using a new form of spectroscopy – electrochemical X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy – we have now been able to create a model for what happens during this degradation process.
