Are you a student of BSc Security Studies and do you want to improve your Public Speaking skills? Then this is your chance!

The LeidenMUN team is excited to invite you to join the workshop 'Introduction to Public Speaking'.

About the workshop

Since our establishment in 2005, we have been training students in public speaking, debate and negotiation in preparation for the most competitive international Model UN conferences; including those at Oxford and Harvard.

The fear of public speaking is a sensation shared by millions of people around the world; one study even notes that this number could be as high as 77% of the world’s population. Despite that fact, we are proud to share that a vast majority of students that work with us throughout our preparatory track have had little to no public speaking experience in the past.
With this workshop, we aim to show you the very first step towards the direction of discovering your voice. Beyond that, you will have the chance to access unique insights into the world of Model United Nations (MUN) as presented by one of the highest ranked delegations in Europe.

If you enjoy your time with us, you can speak to one of our Board Members to find out more about joining our delegation. Every year, LeidenMUN hosts three, 10-12 week training programmes for the most prestigious international MUN conferences, such as those at Harvard, Oxford, King’s College and Science Po. Being part of a LeidenMUN delegation is a highly challenging, yet rewarding experience. Most importantly, you will make friends that could very well last a lifetime.

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 29 September. Please register via this link.

Meet your Delegate Trainers

Ryan van Osch

My name is Ryan van Osch and I am a delegate trainer for LeidenMUN. It is my job to make people understand the power they have within, to push them to their boundaries and beyond and to provide them the gift of confidence. Having been a part of multiple LeidenMUN delegations myself, I was once listening to another set of delegate trainers instilling those very same lessons in me!

Barack Obama used to say that one voice can change a room and if it can change a room it can change the world. I have no grand illusion of changing the world with my voice, but whenever I step in front of a room full of people, I hope my voice makes them think, maybe even improve, but above all that they in turn will use their own voice to create change. That is what drives me to be a better Delegate Trainer each and every day.

Hannah Wasmus

Hannah Wasmus

My name is Hannah and I am doing the Global Conflict track of the IR master here in Leiden. Though I have always loved debate, my love for MUN’s developed only quite a bit later in my academic career. I joined LeidenMUN as a delegate for OXIMUN in 2019 and this experience has both given me new insights regarding my own capabilities as well as a really great time with people outside of my own master program. I thought it was such a valuable experience and decided to become a delegate trainer for LeidenMUN so I can help others have a similar experience. I really look forward to teaching you all my tips and tricks regarding public speaking and lobbying and to help you grow so you can excel in the goals you have set for yourself! My own goals as a delegate trainer is to provide you with a once in a lifetime experience and to provide you with confidence in your own capabilities and a skillset that you can enjoy for the rest of your life.

About MUN Leiden

Leiden MUN is an independent, student-led MUN programme. Every academic year, we select and send different delegations composed of talented and motivated students to the most prestigious Model United Nations conferences worldwide. This year we are hosting our first of a kind Academy track and are aiming to go to the renowned Leuven MUN conference. The applications for our Academy track are now open.

The Leiden MUN programme is cherished for its extensive preparatory track, enabling our students to improve their debating, lobbying, and public speaking skills. For this reason, our delegates’ performances have been awarded at every conference we attend.
