Astronomy: A unique educational tool for furthering the SDGs and stimulating a global perspective
In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly (UN GA), the virtual UN GA75 Dialogue will be held on Tuesday 28 September. The Dialogue is being organised by the International Astronomical Union European Regional Office of Astronomy for Development in Leiden. The highlights of the meeting will be two prerecorded talks:
- Keynote address by Naledi Pandor, who is the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa and Honorary Oort Professor of Astronomy for Development at Leiden University
- Message by Barry Andrews, MEP European Parliamentary Delegation for Relations with South Africa
Other speakers include the Leiden Project Manager Michelle Willebrands, Professor Pedro Russo and Professor Ewine van Dishoeck. Chair of the event is Professor emeritus of Astronomy George Miley, also one of the main organisers of the event. The full programme can be found here.
The results of the Dialogue will be reported to the United Nations.
