Join the lecture in Kaltura Live Room

About the speaker

Dr. Mitra Baratchi is an assistant professor at Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS). Mitra has received her Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Twente in 2015, followed by a post-doc research period on spatio-temporal data analysis from 2015-2017. She joined Leiden University, respectively, in 2017.

Mitra is a computer scientist with a passion for using computational methods in addressing urban and environmental problems. Her research is focused on the design of algorithms for extracting patterns from spatio-temporal data. The knowledge acquired from such data can be used to create a data-driven and system-level view of an urban/environmental phenomena.

Abstract

Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic started impacting citizens around the world, many AI researchers have volunteered to contribute with their knowledge in acquiring more in-depth insight into this phenomenon. Companies with access to data such as Google and Apple have also shared part of their urban and global-scale datasets with scientists. In this talk, Mitra will talk about the insights acquired by the contribution of a group of master students following her Urban Computing course. She will talk about the insights, opportunities, and research challenges of the analysis of available urban data.
