On 4 February, the JASON Institute for Peace & Security Studies proudly welcomes H.E. Drs. Karel J.G. van Oosterom, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations, together with the honourable Dr. Peter Wilson, the British ambassador to the Netherlands and former deputy of the UK mission to the United Nations in New York.
In 2018, the Kingdom of the Netherlands was one of the 10 elected members of the UN Security Council. What is it like to be an elected member of this Council, and what were the relations with the five permanent members: the USA, China, France, Russia and the UK? On 4 February Ambassador Oosterom will look back on the benefits and hardships of the Netherlands’ 2018 membership of the UN Security Council. Peter Wilson will share his professional experience and reflect further on the inner workings and politics of the UN Security Council.
