The richness of multilingualism
Together with Rijksmuseum Boerhaave, the Lorentz Center organizes the public lecture ‘The richness of multilingualism’. It will be given by Pieter Muysken en Gerrit Jan Kootstra from Radboud University Nijmegen.
Multilingualism is surrounded by myths. For example that mixing languages indicates a lack of language skills. Or that it is better to learn one language while growing up. Muysken and Kootstra will discuss these myths and will try to separate fact from fiction, in the light of the results of research in multilingual situations around the world, with young and old and in all sorts of social groups.
