Title: Confidence in Bayesian uncertainty quantification?
Speaker: Botond Szabo (MI)
Botond is an assistant professor at the Mathematical Institute. His research focuses mainly on the theoretical understanding of Bayesian techniques in high-dimensional and non-parametric problems.
Abstract
Bayesian uncertainty quantification is widely used in practice in many different fields of applications, for instance in genetics, finance, epidemiology and machine learning. However, in certain cases it can be fundamentally misleading, giving over confident statements about the performance of the statistical method. The aim of my research is to describe in which cases can Bayesian uncertainty statements be trusted. This could lead to more efficient and trustworthy Bayesian methods in various fields.
