First Lecture
Title: Calmodulin-mediated kinase sequestration: a hub in plant responses to abiotic signals
Speaker Remko Offringa (IBL) Remko is associate professor in the Plant Developmental Genetics group at the IBL. His research focus is the role of the plant hormone auxin in the development of the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. His earlier work showed that the polarity of the transport of auxin is determined by phosphorylation of the PIN FORMED (PIN) auxin transporters by the plant-specific protein kinase PINOID. This formed the basis for one of the main of research topics in his lab: how environmental signals alter plant development by modulating the subcellular localization of PIN proteins. More recently, his research interests have expanded to the role of auxin in plant developmental switches, such as the initiation of embryogenesis and fruit development, and also to bulb propagation and ageing. The work he will present was made possible by an NWO-TOP grant.
Second Lecture, Lorentz Center highlight
Title: Logics for Social Behaviour
Speaker Alessandra Palmigiano (Technical University of Delft)
Alessandra is associate professor and principle investigator of the Applied Logic group at the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management (TBM, TU Delft). Her VIDI project, "Logics for Social Behaviour", develops the mathematical theory of logics specifically designed to account for truth as a social construct. Alessandra is main organizer of the Lorentz Center workshop Unified Correspondence, that is being held from 15 through 19 February 2016.
